Having worked for aerospace, defense and micro electronics manufacturers as a Systems Engineer, Test Engineer and as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt for 15+ years I moved to consulting. As an experienced project manager that focused on process improvements, I found the working with the teams to be extremely satisfying. The teams were appreciative of my skill set of thinking outside the box (with my outside of the team point of view) and analyzing the (whole) situation and creating a solution with the team participants input that they felt really met their needs and was the appropriate way to improve their day-to-day activities.
Software platforms such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Resource Management (CRM) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) were often being underutilized. Yet businesses were looking for new solutions although the capability was available, but it was not being leveraged. The available and indicating data was not being used to make decisions as it was not integrated in to the day to day processes.
