New Speed Limits in the City of Holyoke

HOLYOKE - In an effort to keep the City’s streets safer for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other motorist, The City of Holyoke will be implementing a statutory 25 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in thickly settled or business district zones throughout the City, the current speed limit for these areas is 30 mph.  Thickly settled or business district zones are generally defined as areas where buildings are located within 200 feet of each other for a distance of a quarter of a mile or over.  Streets that have an existing posted speed limit will keep that existing speed limit.

This new measure will allow the City greater flexibility in installing traffic control measures that will result in a safer community for everyone.

Signs will be posted during the month of December at the gateways into the City.
